Go North, Young Man

Wow, what is this, almost a month without a post? My, I've been busy. The photo above is from my recent trip to Toronto, Canada for a capoeira event. The week before I left I was training every night of the week on top of working full time again. There. Now my absence is justified!

A few things I learned about Canada on this (second) visit to "America's Hat":

1. Loonies = $1. Toonies = $2. Canadians love coins and apparently have a helluva sense of humor about finances by naming their coins after a cartoon I watched as a kid.

2. Fruit is served with everything, thus making it healthier. Even when it's covered in powered sugar.

3. Z isn't "zee". It's "zed". I don't know about you, but the only Zedd I ever heard of growing up was this guy from Power Rangers. Regardless, Rush's "YYZ" (or "YYZED") is still bad ass.

4. Canadians will relentlessly make fun of America's for our spelling of certain words as much as we make fun of them for saying "Eh" and "Aboot". Which, by the way, they don't say either.

5. Lastly, Canadians are perhaps some of the kindest people I've ever met.

So I ventured north and had a great time. I came back with a new higher belt in capoeira. It's exciting but feels...heavy around my waist. I need to begin teaching beginners in Kansas City, so look for an announcement of new capoeira classes for beginners beginning sometime time soon.
